JOSEF PETER RADL (Age 77)

On Friday, April 29, 2011, of Hyattsville, MD passed away at Holy Cross Hospital surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Mary DiGuilio Radl; father of Anna (Joseph) Sieber, Gina Miller, John and Kathleen Radl; grandfather of Christopher Sieber; brother of Frank (Inga) Radl, Elizabeth Logiudice and Theresa (Richard) Eibel. Joe was born August 21, 1933, in Gant, Hungary, the son of the late Peter and Anna Radl. He served in the US Army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in the 101st Airborne Division and later as an Army reservist. After his honorable discharge he worked as an iron worker and later became a barber and owned J & J Barber shop for 45 years. On Wednesday, April 27, 2011, of Silver Spring, MD, during the prime of her life. Beloved daughter of the late Francis J. and Antoinette B. Flanagan; sister of Robert (Phyllis), Mary A. and Margaret Mary; life companion of Bob Ford for 44 years. Also survived by two nephews and one niece. Adelaide earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Trinity College, Washington, DC in 1971 and specialized in computers during her 32 year career with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. An avid gardener and sports enthusiast, she was skilled in ice skating, skiing, biking, and especially volleyball where she excelled as the setter on many local volleyball teams. She’ll be remembered for her enthusiasm, energy and love of laughter. On Friday, April 22, 2011, RITA FAYE SCHWARTZ (nee Decker). Loving and beloved wife of 66 years to Joseph A. Schwartz, Jr.; devoted mother of Joseph (Jay) A. Schwartz, III, and his wife, Laura; and Nanci and her husband, Harry Schaefer; grandmother of Megan (Randy) Cornett, Molly (Jim) O’Donnell, Michael (Lara) Schwartz, Gregory (Robin) Schaefer, Geoffrey (Denise) Schaefer, and Aaron Schaefer; great grandmother of Dutch, Darla, Emma, Fiona, Owen, Annabelle, Pearl, Hailey and Baby Girl Schaefer.

A native of Washington, D.C., she was educated at Holy Trinity High School and Immaculata College. She was a founding member of Saint Mark’s Church; where she was a parishioner for over 50 years. She served on the Altar Society for many years, was active in the Sodality and was President of the Ladies of Charity for 14 years. She was a volunteer reading tutor for the Saint Mark’s elementary school and, for many years, a volunteer counselor for pregnant women at Birthright. For her entire life, Rita was devoted to young children; a kind, loving, giving, devoted and gentle woman who touched the hearts of all who knew her.

WILLIAM NESTOR PREUSSE (Age 85)

On Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at his home in Olney, MD.  Beloved husband of 57 years of Marie Preusse; father of Matthew (Debra) Preusse, Laurie (Tom) Clark, Jeffrey Preusse and the late Linda Preusse; grandfather of Jaclyn and Jenna Preusse, Kevin and Sammie Clark; uncle of Jan (Dino) Ciccone; cousin of Michael Nestor. Born in Sacramento, CA on April 11, 1926; he spent most of his youth in Spokane, WA. He served in the US Navy from 1944-1946. Following graduation from Gonzaga University he joined the FBI and spent most of his career as a Special Agent working at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC; retiring in 1978 as a Supervisor in the Domestic Intelligence Division. Mr. Preusse worked for Perpetual Savings Bank as a Branch Manager from 1978-1991. While residing in Silver Spring, MD he was active as a Treasurer and three sport coach with the Wheaton Boys Club from 1965-1973. Mr. Preusse enjoyed sports and was very competitive in raquetball and running.
